Arabic numbers 1 to 100
Ten unit words, nine tens and two patterns make up the whole hundred. The square below has every number; the sections after it explain the patterns, so you can read any of them without the square. To print it, use the chart on the printable page.

11 to 19: two words, one number
أحد عشر and اثنا عشر are learned as they are. From 13 the pattern is regular: the counting form of the unit, then عشر with no ending, written as two words. So 13 is ثلاثة عشر and 18 is ثمانية عشر. Learners often write عشرة here, with the ending of ten on its own; with a masculine count the ten in the teens has no ة.
21 to 99: the unit first
Every number from 21 to 99 that is not a round ten is the unit, the word و (and) joined to the ten, and the ten. Thirty-seven is سبعة وثلاثون, seven and thirty. The conjunction is written onto the following word with no space, which is why the ten appears as وثلاثون.
The trap is in dictation and reading aloud. A learner who hears اثنان وخمسون and writes the digits as they come writes 25. The worksheets on this site put mirror pairs such as 25 and 52 on the same word-to-figure sheet for this reason. Grammars of classical Arabic record an older order in which larger numbers also run upward from the units (Wright gives the pattern); Modern Standard Arabic keeps the unit-first order only between the unit and the ten.
One and two inside bigger numbers
In 21 and 22 the unit keeps its full counting form: واحد وعشرون and اثنان وعشرون. In 11 and 12 it does not, which is one reason the teens are learned separately.
Next: hundreds, thousands and a million, or counting in Arabic to practise putting numbers together.
Questions
How do you say 100 in Arabic?
مائة, pronounced miʾa. The alif after the م is written but not said; it was added in early manuscripts to tell the word apart from a similar spelling, and many writers today leave it out: مئة. Both spellings are correct and the worksheet keys accept both. Two hundred is the dual مائتان (miʾatān).
What is the pattern for 11 to 19?
11 is أحد عشر and 12 is اثنا عشر. From 13 to 19 you take the counting form of the unit and add عشر without its ending: ثلاثة عشر, أربعة عشر, up to تسعة عشر. The two words are written apart and said as a pair; in careful speech both end in -a (thalāthata ʿashara).
How are the tens formed?
Each ten from 30 to 90 is the root of its unit with the ending ون (-ūn): ثلاثة gives ثلاثون, أربعة gives أربعون. Twenty is the exception in shape, عشرون, from the root of ten. In written Arabic after certain words the ending becomes ين (-īn), as in the date في عام ألفين وعشرين; the counting form ends in ون.
Is there a printable Arabic numbers 1-100 chart?
Yes. The printable page has the full chart with pronunciation on one A4 page, printed through your browser so the Arabic letters join correctly, and a worksheet generator for 1 to 100 with the answer key printed separately.
