Arabic numbers printable: the chart and worksheets

The 1-100 chart as a one-page PDF, and a worksheet generator with the answer key as its own file. Every word is checked against a second, separate derivation (71,693,036 checks).

Arabic numbers 1 to 100 chart

Every number from واحد to مائة with its pronunciation, the teens and the unit-first numbers marked. One A4 page.

On every sheet

Seeded numbers, so a link reopens the same sheet. The key printed separately. Text and CSV word lists. A Google Classroom share link.

Arabic numbers worksheet ورقة عمل

New numbers each time, with the ones pupils get wrong mixed in: the teens, the dual, and mirror pairs such as 25 and 52. The answer key is its own file.

The figure is printed; the pupil writes the number in Arabic words. The school or class name prints at the top of every page.

No signup and no watermark. Modern Standard Arabic; every word is checked against a second, separate derivation.

The six exercises

ExerciseWhat the pupil does
Write the ArabicThe figure is printed; the pupil writes the number in Arabic words.
Write the figureThe Arabic is printed; the pupil writes the digits. Mirror pairs (25 and 52) test the reading order.
Matching pairsFigures down the left, the Arabic shuffled down the right, matched by letter.
Fill the gapsCounting runs in Arabic, read right to left, with numbers missing. Above 1,000 the runs step in hundreds or thousands.
Mixed reviewBoth directions on one sheet, then two counting runs. A unit test on one page.
DictationAnswer lines for the class and a read-aloud list for you, in a separate file.

The ranges, and what each one drills

RangeWhat it brings in
1 to 10واحد to عشرة: the ten words every other number is built from.
1 to 20The teens, where عشرة loses its ending (ثلاثة عشر) and 12 is اثنا عشر.
1 to 100Units before tens (خمسة وعشرون), with mirror pairs such as 25 and 52 on word-to-figure sheets.
100 to 1,000مائة and the dual مائتان, the hundreds as one word, 800 ثمانمائة.
1,000 to 10,000ألف, the dual ألفان, then ثلاثة آلاف to عشرة آلاف.
10,000 to 1,000,000أحد عشر ألفا, مائة ألف, the construct مائتا ألف, up to مليون.
Mixed 1 to 1,000,000Every size of number on one sheet.
Custom rangeAny range from 0 to 1,000,000.

Printing

The sheets and their PDFs are A4 and print on US Letter with fit to page switched on. The worksheet PDF and Print worksheet carry the pupils’ pages only, and the key comes as its own PDF and its own print, so the key is not photocopied with the questions by accident. Counting runs on the sheets read from right to left, the way an Arabic line reads: the first number of each run is at the right.

For a lesson to go with the sheets, the 1 to 100 page explains the pattern of the tens, the counting page shows how any number is put together, and the gender page covers the forms the sheets leave out.

Questions

Does each Arabic numbers worksheet come with an answer key?

Yes, printed separately. Download PDF and Print worksheet carry the pupils’ pages only, so the sheet can go to the class or onto a Google Classroom assignment without the answers; Answer key (PDF) and Print answer key give you the key on its own, with each prompt beside its answer. Dictation sheets come with a read-aloud list in place of a key. The key note says which other spellings to accept, such as مئة for مائة.

Which forms of the numbers do the sheets use?

The counting forms of Modern Standard Arabic, the ones used to count aloud and with a masculine noun: واحد، اثنان، ثلاثة ... عشرة. Arabic numbers from 3 to 10 change their form with the gender of the noun they count, and a worksheet of bare numbers has no noun, so the sheets keep to one form throughout. The gender page explains the rule and shows the other set.

Why do some sheets show both 25 and 52?

Arabic says 25 as خمسة وعشرون, five and twenty, while the figure writes the ten first. A pupil who writes digits in the order they hear them writes 52. The word-to-figure, dictation and mixed review sheets include a mirror pair like 25 and 52 where the range allows, so a pupil only gets both right by reading the order correctly.

Can pupils answer with Eastern Arabic digits?

Yes. The sheets print the figures in the digits 0 to 9, and the key note tells you to accept the same number in Eastern Arabic digits (٢٥ for 25), which many pupils from Egypt, the Gulf and the Levant learn first. The Eastern Arabic numerals page shows both sets side by side.

Why can I not select the text in the PDFs?

Because your browser draws each page as a picture. Arabic letters join and change shape with their neighbours, and the PDF writer the sister sites use places letters one at a time, which would print Arabic disconnected and backwards. Your browser shapes Arabic correctly with the same font you see on screen, so the worksheet PDF, the key PDF and the chart are made from what it draws. They print sharply on A4; the trade is that the words cannot be copied out of the file.

Can I put my school or class name on the sheet?

Yes, in English or in Arabic. Type it into the School or class box before you press Generate and it prints at the top of every page of the worksheet and the key. It is optional, it is kept with the sheet’s link, and it does not change which numbers are drawn.
